
COURSES

MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP
Three courses in one! This workshop will rotate between song, dance, and scene work. Students will learn to sing, act, and dance in this comprehensive, scenes based program. A performance of scenes and songs from classic and popular Broadway shows is the culmination of this month-long course. Depending on the final schedule, Musical Theater Workshop students may be pulled out of other classes.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE
​In a group setting, students will learn the basics of jazz style, harmonic language, and Improvisation. Students will be assesed on the first day and assigned an ensemble according to their ability level.
All students will perform in the Final Academy Showcase.

FESTIVAL CHOIR
We believe that all performing arts students should be singing good choir literature, every day! All Academy Music Students participate in Festival Choir rehearsal five times a week for 30 minutes. There is no Charge for Festival Choir!

VOICE CLASS
Students will receive a 45 minute group lesson 5 times a week to learn proper vocal technique through art song.

CHAMBER ENSEMBLE
In a small group setting, students will learn advanced literature on their chosen instrument with a professional coach to guide them. These ensembles are for advanced students only.

COLOR GUARD BASICS
All color guard students will learn all aspects of color guard and the equipment that is used therein with an emphasis on flag spinning and carriage.

MIXED MEDIA ART
This course will teach students how to combine various art, media, and recyclables to create artworks that include techniques of drawing, painting, collage, and assemblage.
*There is a one time $20.00 fee for art supplies due at registration

DANCE
All Academy Dance students will learn aspects of dance, from classical and jazz, to tap and Broadway. Classes will be offered to beginner and intermediate students. Dance students will perform as part of the Musical Theater Workshop

HAND LETTERING/ CALLIGRAPHY
Students will immerse themselves in the timeless art of hand lettering and calligraphy, learning techniques and skills to create personalized letterforms. Students will explore a variety of styles and mediums to express their creativity and develop their own unique style to bring words to life.

CONCERT BAND
​Students who wish to improve their instrumental skills over the summer will enjoy this class. In a full band setting, students will be grouped acccording to ability level and taught basic techniques on their instruments as well as the elements of Rhythm, Tonality, Articulation and Dynamics through band literature.

BEGINNER PIANO/GUITAR
In a large group setting, students will learn how to read notes and play simple songs from a common method book. Keyboards and headsets will be provided for each student. Guitar students may bring their own instrument, or use one of the Class Guitar.

YOGA FOR CREATIVITY & PERFORMANCE
All Academy Students will participate in Morning Yoga for 30 minutes. More serious students are welcome to stay for the entire 45 minute session. Yoga can help children and teens develop self-awareness, build concentration, manage stress, as well as learn to unwind and detach from technology. A regular yoga practice increases vital lung capacity, improves fitness, flexibility, strength, and posture.

BEGINNER/ INTERMEDIATE BAND
In a full band setting, students will be grouped according to ability level and taught basic techniques on their instruments as well as the elements of rhythm, tonality, articulation, and dynamics through literature.

ORFF ENSEMBLE
The basic premise of the Orff approach is that movement, speech, singing, and instrumental playing form an inseparable unity in the music teaching process. The blending of these components contributes to the harmonious development of the child’s physical, social, musical, and artistic development. The ensemble will perform folk songs on keyboard percussion instruments and/ or recorders.

VISUAL ART: SCULPTURE or PAINTING
Students will learn the creative process through painting and/or sculpture. *There is a one time $20.00 fee for art supplies due at registration

SCRAPBOOKING
Students will learn creative methods to use various cutting tools and adhesives to preserve family and personal memories. Students will work to prepare a 12 x 12 scrapbook album of photo layouts with printed papers, journal entries, and decorations. *There is a one time $20.00 fee for supplies and materials due at registration

STEM EXPLORATIONS
Students will engage in hands-on activities, experiments, and challenges and will be provided with a well- rounded exploration of various concepts. Some “fan favorites” and SBSAA summer STEM staples include slime making, elephant toothpaste, rocketry, the diet coke and mentos challenge, engineering challenges and more!

UKELELE
Students will be introduced to the basics of playing the ukulele and will learn chords, strumming patterns, and simple melodies. Students may bring their own instrument or use one of those provided.
